Lawn Crabgrass | Utah
Crabgrass is one of the most common grassy type weed found in Utah lawns. Crabgrass is a warm season annual grass which grows best in the heat of midsummer when desirable lawn grasses are often semi-dormant and offer little or no competition.
Crabgrass overwinters as seed, comes up about mid-May or a little later depending on soil temperatures, and is killed off by the first hard frost in the fall. Crabgrass grows best in full sun. It does not grow well in shady areas, however, if the grass is thinned out because of the shade, crabgrass can take hold.
Crabgrass can be controlled in a number of ways, but the best defense against crabgrass is a thick vigorously growing lawn that is mowed no closer than 2 1/2 inches from the soil.
We also provide a pre-emergent crabgrass control that will help prevent crabgrass and other weed seeds from developing into full size plants later in the year. This is an excellent way to prevent crabgrass from invading your lawn. The Crabgrass pre-emergent treatment is included as part of our Premium and Platinum lawn care programs and is performed early spring each season.
